The Homogeneous Study of Transiting Systems (HoSTS) will derive a consistent and homogeneous set of both the stellar and planetary physical properties for a large sample of bright transiting planetary systems with confirmed planetary masses and measured radii. Our resulting catalogs of the fundamental properties of these bright planets and their host stars will enable us to explore empirical correlations that will lead to a better understanding of planetary formation and evolution. We present our pilot study of the planet-hosting star WASP-13, and the framework of our project which will allow for the identification of true relationships among the physical properties of the systems from any systematics.

Introduction:
Falls are one of the most common types of complaints received by 9-1-1 emergency medical dispatch centers. They can be accidental or may be caused by underlying medical problems. Though not alert” falls patients with severe outcomes mostly are “hot” transported to the hospital, some of these cases may be due to other acute medical events (cardiac, respiratory, circulatory, or neurological), which may not always be apparent to the emergency medical dispatcher (EMD) during call processing.
Objectives:The objective of this study was to characterize the risk of cardiac arrest and “hot-transport” outcomes in patients with “not alert” condition, within the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS®) Falls protocol descriptors.
Methods:This retrospective study used 129 months of de-identified, aggregate, dispatch datasets from three US emergency communication centers. The communication centers used the Medical Priority Dispatch System version 11.3–OMEGA type (released in 2006) to interrogate Emergency Medical System callers, select dispatch codes assigned to various response configurations, and provide pre-arrival instructions. The distribution of cases and percentages of cardiac arrest and hot-transport outcomes, categorized by MPDS® code, was profiled. Assessment of the association between MPDS® Delta-level 3 (D-3) “not alert” condition and cardiac arrest and hot-transport outcomes then followed.
Results:Overall, patients within the D-3 and D-2 “long fall” conditions had the highest proportions (compared to the other determinants in the “falls” protocol) of cardiac arrest and hot-transport outcomes, respectively. “Not alert” condition was associated significantly with cardiac arrest and hot-transport outcomes (p < 0.001).
Conclusions:The “not alert” determinant within the MPDS® “fall” protocol was associated significantly with severe outcomes for short falls (<6 feet; 2 meters) and ground-level falls. As reported to 9-1-1, the complaint of a “fall” may include the presence of underlying conditions that go beyond the obvious traumatic injuries caused by the fall itself.

The NASA Discovery mission EPOXI, utilizing the Deep Impact flyby spacecraft, comprises two phases: EPOCh (Extrasolar Planet Observation and Characterization) and DIXI (Deep Impact eXtended Investigation). With EPOCh, we use the 30-cm high resolution visible imager to obtain ultraprecise photometric light curves of known transiting planet systems. We will analyze these data for evidence of additional planets, via transit timing variations or transits; for planetary moons or rings; for detection of secondary eclipses and the constraint of geometric planetary albedos; and for refinement of the system parameters. Over a period of four months, EPOCh observed four known transiting planet systems, with each system observed continuously for several weeks. Here we present an overview of EPOCh, including the spacecraft and science goals, and preliminary photometry results.

EPOXI (EPOCh + DIXI) is a NASA Discovery Program Mission of Opportunity using the Deep Impact flyby spacecraft. The EPOCh (Extrasolar Planet Observation and Characterization) Science Investigation will gather photometric time series of known transiting exoplanet systems from January through August 2008. Here we describe the steps in the photometric extraction of the time series and present preliminary results of the first four EPOCh targets.

The suicide rate for county Kerry in 1988 was determined by clinical means using postmortem records as a starting point. Sixteen deaths due to suicide were thus identified (eight males and eight females). The official figure for the year is 19 (13 males and six females). Four of the clinically determined suicides did not appear in the official figures. Combining information from both sources gives a figure of 23 suicide deaths, a rate of 18.58 per 100,000. The authors conclude that there are continuing deficiencies in suicide recording practices.

Various geophysical and hydrologic tests were conducted in a cluster of nine wells to image the hydrologic connections of a fractured rock mass. Results of intra-borehole flow surveys and cross-hole radar and seismic tomography surveys correlated very well, and indicated that there is a major feature at a depth of 30m. Systematic injection tests were conducted in all nine wells. Three to four intervals in each well were isolated using pneumatic packers. Each interval was equipped with a high resolution pressure transducer. Some 130 injection tests were conducted, and more than 4,100 cross-hole transient pressure measurements were obtained. A computer algorithm was developed to analyze such massive interference data systematically. As a result of the analysis, an image of the fracture connections emerged which is consistent with the geophysical data.

Since the absolute magnitude of the Sun is known accurately and the solar spectrum defines spectral type G2 V, it would appear that the position of the Sun in the HR diagram is well established. However, the color of the Sun and its metallicity relative to other stars remains controversial. It is known from theory that stellar groups of differing composition will have different main sequences.
The observed difference in the strength of the metallic lines in Coma stars relative to Hyades stars is caused by a systematic difference in [Fe/H] of less than 0.2 dex or 50%. Photographs and quantitative measures of the systematic differences between the Hyades and Coma spectra are presented. Visual comparison and quantitative analysis of the solar spectrum relative to Hyades and Coma spectra reveal that the Sun is metal rich similar to the Hyades stars rather than of normal disk metallicity as represented by Coma stars. Evidence is presented showing that the color and spectral line strengths of the Sun are more similar to stars classified G3 and G4 in the literature than G2. If the Hyades modulus is y = 3m.25, the (B-V) color of the Sun must be 0m.65 or redder for the Sun to be on or above the Hyades main sequence.
